Review: Boonboomger First Episode Brings Back Iconic Sentai Debut Format with Booming Twist - The Toku Source (2024)

The Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger premiere brings an iconic debut format back, with a full throttle approach to the story. The 48^th Super Sentai series has aired the first episode of the new 2024 team, featuring the first appearance of Bun Red, Bun Blue, and Bun Pink.

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger features the 48^th Super Sentai series that began its run on March 3rd, 2024, featuring a pedal-to-the-metal car theme. The series began the following week after Ohsama Sentai KingOhger concluded with its 50^th episode finale. The new Super Sentai series has already released toys concerning the new team, including the DX Boonboom Changer, DX Boonboom Handle, and even the start of the Car Series line. The cast reveal was also accompanied by the upcoming debut of Bun Black and Bun Orange, who will join the team in later episodes.

The story also establishes many significant details about the characters and the villains that drop into the action. The debut episode also features some mysteries and teases that have yet to be revealed in the series. As Shifuto Mira meets Handou Taiya, she is brilliantly diverted into an unanticipated confrontation that puts her into the driving seat.

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger is off to a ‘Booming’ start as the new Sentai series introduces Shifuto Mira (Suzuki Miu), Handou Taiya (Iuchi Haruhi), and Meita Ishirou (Hayama Yuki). Fans are instantly placed into the action as the beginning has yet to establish itself with enough background information. However, the episode centres on many firsts for the series itself, including the true first appearance of Mira as she becomes Boon Pink. Fans are also introduced to the Great Space Invasion Force Hashirian, consisting of Decotrade, Itasha, and Yayai Yarker.

BoonBoom Debut for Heroes

The first episode of the 48^th Sentai series is filled with nostalgic compositions that drive viewers back to the classic and iconic series that preceded it. After the debut of Donbrothers and KingOhger, fans finally return to the familiar new Sentai introduction and debut. Despite the similarities, the first episode keeps a vague yet great foundation for the trio of heroes as Bun Pink’s recruitment is featured. The outside perspective was brilliantly performed by Suzuki Miu as she provides a viewer like perspective for the series to start establishing characters.

Drama and Synopsis: Immersive Introduction

The tone is wonderfully set by the cast as Haruhi and Yuki are set up as preexisting heroes, teased further by the series debut of ally, Bundorio Bunderas. Rica Matsumoto matches the suit actor perfectly with their Boonboom themed hype, along with a fantastic transformation into Boonboom Trailer. The delivery occupation also provided a real tangent to the drama that unfolded as Haruhi saves Mira from a forced marriage thanks to her boyfriend hiring the team. The introduction of the Hashirian also perfectly intersected with this, with their debut starting light until their effects became more daunting with the creation of monsters and giant foes.

Nostalgic Action With a New Kick

The format of debut after debut for the first episode directly synchronised with many high octane debuts that fans used to see for past series. The debut felt similar to Sentai such as Gekiranger and Donbrothers, as the team nears completion until the remaining member completes the main team. The series also provides a delightful debut as it highlights Pink, much like Oni Sister in the 46^th Sentai. The powers and moves seen for Boonboomger bring back nostalgia for Sentai such as Carranger as the high speed ability returns with this car themed Sentai series. This was a great feature to see return and the effects team managed to give it a new lease of life, with new powers specifically for the new team.

Teasers and Driven Hints

The origins of Taiya and Ishiro are also teased in the first episode, with a direct correlation between Ishiro and Mira’s recruitment. Many backstories are yet to be explained, but the episode excelled at bringing in the audience to hook them into wanting more. Fans were also given opportunities to see both Ryu Saito and Satoru Soma, as they make their first teased appearance as Jou Akuse and Genba Bureki, respectively. Both were given a brilliant new and preexisting tease, which heightened the series premiere to encourage fans to watch more.

Winner of Premiere Race

The return of the iconic format of transformation, combat, and Robo debut in one episode allowed for a great grasp on the audience. The whole series felt like a huge return for many renowned features from past Sentai, while also keeping fresh instances for the Sentai specific features. The visuals and settings instantly stunned the viewer as they were provided with a well rounded episode that introduced many reoccurring elements. Despite its captivating debut that uses a nostalgic format, the series was a fundamental bombardment of puns, but it also aided the callout quirk flawlessly. It will be exciting to see the Sentai further establish the origins and proceed further down the road in the upcoming episodes.
